The report outlines the issues considered by the Panel, including: proposed new methodologies; requests for clarification on and revision to approved methodologies; issues of general guidance and tools; and schedule of meetings and rounds of submissions of proposed new methodologies.

UNFCCC Workshop Formulates Recommendations Regarding Climate-Related Hazards, Sectoral and National Level Planning [viewed]

16 March 2009: The Workshop on Integrating Practices, Tools and Systems for Climate Risk Assessment and Management and Disaster Risk Reduction Strategies into National Policies and Programmes convened from 10-12 March 2009, in Havana, Cuba. The workshop took place under the aegis of the Nairobi Work Programme on Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change, which was established in 2006 under the UNFCCC. The event was held in collaboration with the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction and brought together approximately 80 participants, representing governments, UN agencies and constituted bodies, academia, and non-governmental organizations.

13 March 2009: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) held an international experts meeting on “Climate Change and Arctic Sustainable Development: scientific, social, cultural and educational challenges,” which convened from 3-6 March 2009, in Monaco. The meeting brought together experts in the social and natural sciences, ethics, education and international affairs who sought the local expertise of indigenous peoples in drafting a set of 66 recommendations for follow-up action.

12 March 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a document (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/INF.1) that elaborates on how to address, where applicable, the definitions, modalities, rules and guidelines for the treatment of land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) under the Kyoto Protocol. The elaboration builds on annex III to the report of the AWG-KP on the first part of its sixth session, annex IV to the report of the AWG-KP on its resumed fifth session, and relevant information submitted by parties.

The document is titled “Further elaboration of the options, elements and issues contained in annex IV to document FCCC/KP/AWG/2008/3 [possible approaches targeting sectoral emissions and on greenhouse gases, sectors and source categories to be covered] and annex III to document FCCC/KP/AWG/2008/5 [possible options for consideration relating to land use, land-use change and forestry], including on which proposals could address cross-cutting issues, and how.”
