Event: Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP) Peer Evaluation and Planning Meeting [viewed]

20 African countries building resilience to climate change, as part of the Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP), will meet in Dakar to share lessons on climate adaptation, build capacity, agree on priorities for the AAP workplan for 2011, and accelerate progress to make their countries more resilient to climate change. Since 2008, the AAP – a flagship programme of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with UNIDO, UNICEF and WFP under the Japan-UNDP Joint Framework for Building Partnership to Address Climate Change – is helping 20 countries in Africa to develop their capacity to design and implement climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction programmes that are aligned with their national development priorities.

Event: Montreal Protocol OEWG 31 [viewed]

Delegates at the 31st meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG 31) of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer are expected to discuss two proposals for amendments to the Montreal Protocol. The first has been submitted by the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and is similar to the amendment proposed by FSM in 2010 to control the production and consumption of HFCs. Canada, Mexico and the US have also submitted a proposed amendment, similar to the amendment they proposed at the twenty-second meeting of the Parties (MOP 22) in 2010, which aims to list 20 specific HFCs in a new Annex to the Protocol. OEWG 31 is also scheduled to consider several other issues, including the 2011 progress report of the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) and the TEAP's initial recommendations for essential-use and critical-use nominations.

15 November 2010: The Committee on Environmental Policy of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) met for its seventeenth session in Geneva, Switzerland, from 2-5 November 2010, to advance the preparations for the seventh “Environment for Europe” Ministerial Conference, scheduled from 21-23 September 2011 in Astana, Kazakhstan, with two themes: “Sustainable management of water and water-related ecosystems” and “Greening the economy: mainstreaming the environment into economic development.”
