UN Secretary-General to Focus on Climate Change During Trip to China and Mongolia [viewed]

20 July 2009: The UN Secretary-General is scheduled to travel to China on 24 July 2009, where he will meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and other Chinese officials in Beijing, and participate in a number of climate change-related programmes, including a “Green Light” event focusing on energy efficient technologies.

Event: International Seminar on Climate Change Education [viewed]

This seminar, organized by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will bring together 60 climate change, education and curricula development experts to examine how climate change issues can be integrated into educational programmes and school curricula. Other objectives include mobilizing support for relevant teacher training, enhancing the exchange of good practices on climate change education and finding ways to better use existing networks such as the UNESCO Associated Schools Networks and World Heritage sites to promote local field-based education.

Event: Nairobi Work Programme: Technical Workshop on Advancing the Integration of Approaches to Adaptation Planning [viewed]

Event: Tunza International Children and Youth Conference [viewed]

This meeting is expected to be the biggest youth gathering on climate change before the UN climate conference in December. It will offer an opportunity for the more than 800 participants, from over 100 countries, to demand that their governments reach a scientifically-credible and far-reaching new climate agreement in Copenhagen.

Event: OECD Conference on the Economics of Climate Change [viewed]

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) organizes this Conference to discuss how climate change mitigation and adaptation can best be tackled in an economically efficient manner, including by ensuring sufficient incentives for participation by all. Analytical input to the Conference will include work by OECD both on the Economics of Climate Change Mitigation and on the Economics of Adaptation. The aim of the work is to build understanding of the elements of what might be needed for an internationally feasible, inclusive and cost-effective post-2012 architecture to mitigate climate change.
