13 February 2009: UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner linked climate change and mercury pollution in an open editorial in the UK Guardian. The editorial was published prior to the 25th session of the UNEP Governing Council (UNEP GC-25), which is convening from 16-20 February 2009, in Nairobi, Kenya.

12 February 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has prepared an information note on pre-sessional meetings and workshops of the seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 7) and the fifth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 5) that will take place in Bonn, Germany (CAS/INF/FEB/09).

10 February 2009: The High-Level Meeting on African Agriculture in the 21st Century - Meeting the Challenges, Making a Sustainable Green Revolution, which convened from 9-10 February, in Windhoek, Namibia, adopted a declaration in which participants called for, among other measures, support to help African farmers adapt to climate change.

10 February 2009: The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) workshop on “Evaluating and Improving Regional Climate Projections” was held from 11-13 February 2009, in Toulouse, France, to discuss the way forward in producing climate information on regional, in addition to global, scales. The WCRP, sponsored by the World Meteorological Organization, the International Council for Science and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, aims to improve climate predictions and our understanding of human influence on climate through observations and modeling of the Earth system and the policy relevant assessment of climate conditions.

6 February 2009: Climate change could lead to unprecedented hardship for many fishery-dependent poor countries according to a study conducted by a team of researchers at the WorldFish center, a research center supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and a number of other research institutions.

February 2009: A roundtable discussion on “Towards a Low-carbon future: Making the climate neutral case to the public” will convene 18 February, during the 25th session of the UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GC/GMEF-25), which is convening in Nairobi, Kenya, from 16 - 20 February 2009.

February 2009: The World Bank will hold its Energy Week 2009 from 31 March-2 April 2009, at its headquarters in Washington DC, US. The event will gather policy-makers and practitioners engaged in energy and development. It will comprise a three-day executive conference where energy challenges facing today's world will be analyzed, including topics such as: energy innovations for clean transport; securing a climate sensitive energy supply; integrating wind energy development; and scaling up energy efficiency for climate change mitigation.

February 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the Report of the individual review of the greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories of Estonia submitted in 2007 and 2008 (FCCC/ARR/2008/EST).
February 2009: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has released four new issues of its Research Brief Series on adaptation of African agriculture to climate change. The Briefs are based on research under the project “Food and Water Security under Global Change: Developing Adaptive Capacity with a Focus on Rural Africa,” which is part of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural research (CGIAR) Challenge Program on Water and Food.
