30 March 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published seven submissions from parties (FCCC/AWGLCA/2011/MISC.6) on views on the issues relating to the a work programme for the development of modalities and guidelines listed in decisions 1/CP.16, paragraph 46, including with respect to the initial scheduling of the processes described in chapter III.A (Enhanced action on mitigation. UN-HABITAT Releases Report on Cities and Climate Change [viewed]

29 March 2011: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) has released a report titled "Global Report on Human Settlements 2011 – Cities and Climate Change," which indicates that while cities are responsible for the largest proportion of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, they provide clear economic and social opportunities for their inhabitants if they are planned sustainably.

Event: CBD Sub-regional Capacity-building Workshop for West Africa on Implementation of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas [viewed]

The objective of the workshop is to build capacity to: create a national action plan for implementation of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas; access funding based on these action plans; and strengthen implementation of the Programme of Work on the themes of governance, climate change (including integrating protected areas into the wider land and seascape), sustainable financing, and valuation of the costs and benefits of protected areas, with a focus on marine protected areas where applicable.

LDC Eminent Persons Group Releases Report [viewed]

29 March 2011: The UN Secretary-General's Eminent Persons Group on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) has released its report, titled “Compact for Inclusive Growth and Prosperity.” The report finds that the structural limitations of LDCs must be addressed in order to close the gap between LDCs and the rest of the world, and outlines objectives and targets for a new Programme of Action (PoA), including on small island developing States (SIDS) and climate change.
