Event: Second Africa Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction [viewed]

This meeting is being organized by the African Union Commission, the Government of Kenya and the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR), in collaboration with the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) of the World Bank. This conference will be held parallel to the First Conference of Ministers responsible for meteorology in Africa, organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in conjunction with the African Union Commission.

The conference on disaster risk reduction and its technical segment will aim to: discuss and adopt the extended Programme of Action for the Implementation of the Africa Regional Strategy for disaster risk reduction (2006-2015); define a regional mechanism and the resources to coordinate, support and monitor the implementation of the Africa Strategy and Programme of Action for disaster risk reduction (2006-2010); and link the outcomes of UNFCCC COP 15 to the extended Programme of Action for the Implementation of the Africa Regional Strategy for disaster risk reduction (2006-2015).

Event: Petersberg Climate Dialogue [viewed]

German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel will open this informal meeting, which she announced during the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference. Around 45 countries are expected to participate in the Dialogue.

Event: First Meeting of the Parties to the 2003 Kiev Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers [viewed]

The Protocol is the first legally binding international instrument on pollutant release and transfer registers (PRTRs), which help to identify the biggest sources of pollution, including those emitting greenhouse gases (GHGs). The Protocol is expected to contribute to climate change mitigation efforts in the region of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

Multilateral Banks Discuss Climate Finance [viewed]

9 April 2010: Heads of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met on 9 April 2010, at European Investment Bank (EIB) headquarters in Luxembourg, to discuss plans to support a sustainable global recovery and climate finance. Participants at the meeting noted that the Copenhagen Accord offers an opportunity to take action to finance measures to combat climate change.

Event: First Workshop on Climate Induced Migration in the Middle East and North Africa [viewed]

Event: 35th Session of the FAO European Forestry Commission [viewed]
