Event: Climate Change Awareness Policy for Public Broadcasting [viewed]

This training meeting is organized by the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA) and it encompasses climate change journalism, broadcaster responsibility, programme evaluation and agreement on a universal template for internal broadcasting policy for 10 broadcasters. This training workshop is sponsored by the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), a multilateral forum in the UN system that seeks to mobilize the international community to discuss and promote media development in developing countries.

Event: Global Conference on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change [viewed]

This meeting is organized by the Government of the Netherlands in cooperation with the Governments of Ethiopia, Norway and New Zealand, the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). The meeting aims to provide concrete actions to link the implementation of agriculture-related investments, policies, and measures with long-term carbon emission reductions and adaptation benefits. It will address new and additional and innovative ways of financing the roadmap for action and aims to contribute to the UNFCCC climate talks in Cancun, Mexico. The conference will include a ministerial roundtable.

Policy Update #7: Dark Clouds, Silver Linings [viewed]

The past week has brought discouraging news for climate activists. The US Senate's decision on 22 July to put climate legislation on ice until at least 2011 had been widely anticipated. Even so, when the official announcement finally came, it was greeted globally with dismay, even anger. American experts from civil society lined up to condemn the action. Internationally, even politicians got in on the act, with ministers from South Africa and India expressing disappointment.

Highlighted is a recent meeting of the Interim REDD+ Partnership, which was established in May at the Oslo Climate and Forest conference.
