European Commission Publishes Green Paper on Forests and Climate Change [viewed]

IMF Managing Director Proposes Insurance for Low Income Countries Against Effects of Climate Change [viewed]

26 February 2010: Speaking at the Annual Meeting of the Bretton Woods Committee, held in Washington DC, US, on 26 February 2010, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), proposed to expand the IMF's role as a provider of insurance for low-income countries against global volatility and the effects of climate change.

UNECE Inland Transport Committee Highlights Measures to Address Climate Change [viewed]

25 February 2010: The 72nd annual session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Inland Transport Committee, held from 23-25 February 2010, in Geneva, Switzerland, recognized that measures including better infrastructure planning, efficient border-crossing and transit procedures, technologically progressive vehicle construction norms and a greater role for environmentally-friendly modes, such as rail and inland navigation, are necessary steps to improve current and future transportation systems, with less pollution, in the pan-European region.

WTO Environmental Goods and Services Negotiations Focus on Climate-Friendly Products [viewed]

19 February 2010: The World Trade Organization (WTO) held a Special Session of the Committee on Trade and Environment (CTE-SS) to continue negotiations on the liberalization of environmental goods and services, and noted a renewed focus on liberalizing trade in climate-friendly products, such as solar energy-related parts and components, wind and hydro-electric energy and gas-turbines, natural gas and clean-diesel vehicles, and products used in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects.

FAO Releases Ex-ante Carbon Accounting Tool for Agriculture and Forestry [viewed]

16 February 2010: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released EX-ACT (EX-ante Appraisal Carbon-balance Tool), a land-based accounting tool that provides ex-ante measurements of the impacts of agriculture and forestry projects on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and carbon sequestration.

FAO Releases Booklet on AFOLU Carbon Finance Opportunities for Smallholders [viewed]

February 2010: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released a booklet titled "Carbon Finance Possibilities for Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) Projects in a Smallholder Context." The booklet aims to guide extension service advisors and institutions who work with small-scale farmers and foresters with an interest in carbon finance and carbon projects.

UNEP's Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum Adopts Nusa Dua Declaration [viewed]

1 March 2010: Environment Ministers at the 11th Special Session of the Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), which was held from 24-26 February 2010, in Bali, Indonesia, adopted the Nusa Dua Declaration, in which they underscore the vital importance of biodiversity, the urgent need to combat climate change and the advantages gained from advancing towards a 'green economy.'
