March 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Ecological Society for Eastern Africa, Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) and others have partnered to organize "African Climate Teach-in Day," a day devoted to lectures and lessons around the issue of climate change in Africa, to be held in universities and secondary schools across the continent.

Event: 33rd Joint FAO/UNECE Working Party on Forest Economics and Statistics [viewed]

The meeting will address possible reform of institutional arrangements under the Timber Committee of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the European Forestry Commission of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Additional topics will include: guidance of work areas, including markets and statistics; forest resources assessment; forest sector outlook studies; social and cultural aspects; policy and cross-sectoral issues; the status of the joint wood energy enquiry; and a roundtable on forest information challenges.

Event: Ocean Climate and Marine Ecosystems in the Western Pacific: IOC/WESTPAC Eighth International Scientific Symposium [viewed]

This Symposium is organized by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) - Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC). It aims to bring together marine scientists with a view to encouraging an interdisciplinary approach towards the management and sustainable development of coasts and oceans with the growing challenges of climate change.
