12 August 2009: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has published its annual report for 2008, which highlights activities related to climate change issues.
10 August 2009: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is inviting comments by governments, non-governmental organizations, institutions, members of universities and scientific bodies, and individuals on the first draft of the third edition of Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO-3). Comments are invited until 1 October 2009.
August 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) posted an online paper titled “Climate Change at UNDP: Scaling Up to Meet the Challenge,” prepared by its Environment and Energy Group. The paper presents UNDP's strategy to support the efforts of developing countries and vulnerable groups for scaling up mitigation and adaptation action to successfully meet the climate change challenge and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
August 2009: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has invited comments on a draft Water Policy Advocacy Framework, which seeks to provide a framework for the Secretariat to advocate for the development of water resource management policies at country level.
This Conference, hosted by Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei in association with Conservation International, DEFRA, Department of Land Economy of Cambridge University and the European Investment Bank (EIB), is focused on identifying the most effective and efficient instruments for biodiversity conservation. Among other issues it will address the demand for climate mitigation services, such as the protection of forests and wetlands to absorb carbon dioxide.

12 August 2009: In a message to mark International Youth Day, which is celebrated on 12 August, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon underscored that climate change “continues to compromise economies [...] saddling young people everywhere with an unjust `ecological debt´.”
11 August 2009: Speaking in Incheon, Republic of Korea, at the opening of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) office and the UN/ISDR Education and Training Institute for Urban Risk Reduction, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stressed that “climate risk is adding a new dimension to disaster risk” and that rapid urban growth is increasing vulnerability.
11 August 2009: In his remarks to the Global Environment Forum in Incheon, Republic of Korea, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon noted that some 80% of the Republic of Korea's US$38 billion national stimulus package is dedicated to green growth, and nearly a million green jobs will be created in the coming four years.
