This high-level forum is being organized by the UN Global Compact, UN-Energy and other UN Agencies, funds and programmes, and will focus on the theme of Sustainable Energy for All. The forum will bring together Heads of State attending the UN General Assembly and over 300 CEOs of leading companies in the sector. Hosted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the Private Sector Forum will feature high-level roundtable discussions among business, government, civil society and UN leaders. It is designed to maximize interaction, increase understanding of efforts underway, and generate a range of commitments to action around the Sustainable Energy for All goals.

Event: Pre-UNFCCC COP 17 African Energy Ministers Conference [viewed]

Hosted by the Government of South Africa and endorsed by the African Union (AU), this conference seeks to provide input into the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The meeting will also work towards, inter alia, the development of a Sustainable Energy Access Road Map and a Joint Communique. Participants are also expected to address: mitigation; adaptation; regional interconnectivity; the scaling up of renewables; energy efficiency; and financing possibilities for sustainable options for increasing clean energy access in Africa.

Event: International Carbon Capture and Storage Conference [viewed]

This Conference will asses the global status of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) development and ongoing challenges and opportunities and discuss how to promote CCS projects in developing countries. Event: First Climate Change and Development for Africa Conference [viewed]

Organized by the United Nation's Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) African Climate Policy Centre, the aim of this conference is to establish a forum for dialogue, enhance awareness raising, mobilize effective commitment and actions through bringing together policy makers, academicians and practicing stakeholders with the aim of effectively mainstreaming climate change concerns into development policies, strategies, programmes and practices in Africa. Event: IEA's 11th Annual Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Workshop [viewed]

The International Energy Agency's (IEA) Emissions Trading Workshop focuses on developments in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions trading around the world at the international, national and sub-national levels, including: scaled-up and new market mechanisms; Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and sectoral crediting policies; monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV); and international GHG accounting and second-best trading programmes. UNESCO to Launch Course on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development [viewed]
