Event: Third TICAD Ministerial Follow-up Meeting [viewed]

The Third Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Follow-up Meeting will be held in Dakar, Senegal, from 1-2 May 2011, to review progress on the implementation of the Yokohama Action Plan issued at TICAD IV in 2008, and discuss the future of the TICAD process and progress towards achieveing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), climate change and low-carbon growth and sustainable development in Africa. The conference is organized by the Government of Japan, the UN, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and the African Union Commission (AUC), and is expected to gather Ministers and delegations of African countries along with representatives of other partner countries, international and regional organizations, the private sector and civil society organizations.

Event: Istanbul Trade and Development Symposium on Least Developed Countries [viewed]

Organized by the the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Center, the Centre for Policy Dialogue Bangladesh, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation, this symposium aims to facilitate Least Developed Country (LDC) progress on trade capacities, partnerships, structural vulnerabilities, and climate change. A roundtable discussion will be held to generate suggestions and proposals on how LDCs can overcome vulnerabilities exacerbated by climate change, such as the lack of diversification of their economies and the absence of social safety nets.

UNDP Administrator Visits REDD+ Pilot Site in Indonesia [viewed]

UNDP28 April 2011: During an official visit in Indonesia, UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Helen Clark visited peat swamp areas in Central Kalimantan and met with local officials to discuss their plans for REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation  in developing countries, as well as conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks) pilot initiatives.
