Event: UNGA Dialogue 1-2 on Technology Transfer Mechanism [viewed]

In UN General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 68/210, Member States decided to hold a series of four, one-day structured dialogues to consider possible arrangements for a facilitation mechanism to promote the development, transfer and dissemination of clean and environmentally sound technologies. The first two dialogues will be held back-to-back, on 29-30 April 2014, at UN Headquarters in New York, US. The themes for these two dialogues are 'Stock-taking of the debates on development, transfer and dissemination of clean and environmentally sound technologies,' and 'Assessing fragmentation, synergies, areas of duplication and opportunities for cooperation between existing mechanisms and processes, thus improving overall coherence and enhancing interlinkages,' respectively.

Event: World Green Economy Summit 2014 [viewed]

The World Green Economy Summit 2014 (WGES) is an initiative of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and will be held under the leadership of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), in conjunction with the water, energy and environment technologies exhibition 'WETEX 2014'. Summit partners include the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Global Energy Initiative, the CEO Platform for Green Growth in the Middle East and North Africa, and the Clean Energy Business Council. WGES is organized around the theme 'Global Partnerships, Sustainable Future'. It will constitute the first green economy summit in the Middle East and North Africa region, and will link up to the global efforts in securing a climate agreement in 2015 at UNFCCC COP 21.

global-trends7 April 2014: A report released by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Frankfurt School (FS)-UNEP Collaborating Centre for Climate & Sustainable Energy Finance, and Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) finds that renewable energy (excluding large hydro) accounted for 43.6% of new generation capacity in 2013. The new installations continued an upward trend in renewable energy additions, despite a 14% decrease in investment.
