Development Finance Institutions Work on Principles for Tracking Climate Finance [viewed]

world_bank_idfc3 April 2015: Over two dozen development finance institutions are working on common sets of principles that each will use for tracking climate finance. The first set for tracking mitigation finance has been agreed and similar principles for tracking adaptation finance and the ability to leverage finance will follow later this year. Rachel Kyte, World Bank Group Vice President and Special Envoy for Climate Change, said that common methodologies will help “build trust that climate finance is flowing.”

Event: NAP Expo 2015: Realizing the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Process [viewed]

The NAP Expo 2015 will serve as a platform for: exchanging information on formulating and implementing national adaptation plans (NAPs); providing updates on national adaptation activities; sharing technical knowledge on adaptation assessments and design; learning best practices for addressing climate change vulnerabilities and risks; and connecting countries providing technical and financial support with countries in need. Participating stakeholders from least developed countries (LDCs) and non-LDC developing countries and those from supporting agencies and organizations will be able to take advantage of a variety of special events and training opportunities. The event is being organized by the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) with the support of the UNFCCC Secretariat, the Adaptation Committee, the global support programmes for NAPs and other partners.

UNFCCC Outlines Next Steps for BURs [viewed]

Event: First Global Methane Initiative Workshop and Exhibition in the Middle East [viewed]

The Saudi Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is hosting this Global Methane Initiative (GMI) workshop to disseminate technical information, present profit-generating technologies and share best practices that cost-effectively reduce methane emissions. Saudi Arabia is a member of the GMI, which is an international public-private initiative that advances cost-effective, near-term methane abatement and recovery and use of methane as a clean energy source in the agricultural, coal mine, municipal solid waste, oil and gas, and wastewater sectors. The event is being organized in cooperation with Saudi Aramco, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the UN Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC).

Russian Federation, Gabon Submit INDCs [viewed]

flags_russia_gabon1 April 2015: The Governments of the Russian Federation and Gabon have submitted their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) to the UNFCCC Secretariat. With their submissions, a total of 35 parties have formally announced their INDCs. The Russian Federation's contribution brings the total emissions from industrialized countries covered by INDCs to nearly 80%. Gabon is the first African country to announce an INDC.
