UNFCCC Compiles Overlaps and Duplication in Draft Climate Agreement [viewed]

UNFCCC9 April 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released an informal note (FCCC/ADP/2015/1) presenting a table of the overlaps and duplication in the negotiating text that will serve as the basis for negotiations on a 2015 global climate change agreement. The Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) agreed to the negotiating text at the eighth part of its second session (ADP 2-8) in February 2015. The ADP will continue its work based on the text when it meets again in June 2015.

Structured Expert Dialogue on 2013-2015 Review: Last Session's Report Released [viewed]

UNFCCC7 April 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report on the fourth and last session of the structured expert dialogue (SED) on the 2013-2015 review. The 2013–2015 review is carried out by the Conference of the Parties (COP) with assistance from the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), which established a joint contact group. The COP established the SED in 2012 to support the work of the joint contact group and ensure the scientific integrity of the review through a focused exchange of views, information and ideas.

Carbon Forum Asia Fosters Collaboration on Market-Based Measures [viewed]

carbon_forum_asia27 March 2015: The International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) and Koelnmesse organized the inaugural Carbon Forum Asia (CFA) Workshop, bringing together actors from the entire carbon and energy market value chain to discuss trends in carbon pricing, the upcoming 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC and developments in climate finance. The two-day CFA 2015 Workshop focused on the Asian experience in implementing market-based solutions to reducing carbon pollution.

Event: Ninth UNESCO Youth Forum [viewed]

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will hold its Ninth Youth Forum, under the theme of 'Young Global Citizens for a Sustainable Planet,' with a special focus on climate change and sustainable development. The Forum, which takes place every two years, will be held as an integral part of the 38th session of the UNESCO General Conference.

Event: 15th Meeting of Partners (MoP) of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) [viewed]

Convening under the theme, ‘Congo Basin Ecosystems: a source of natural capital, producer of economic value and driver of green growth for the well being of its people,' this meeting of partners will consider priority actions for the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP), develop roadmaps for implementation, and discuss partner engagement. Event: Open-Ended Consultations on UNECE Work on Sustainable Energy [viewed]

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) will hold Open-Ended Consultations on its sustainable energy work in preparation for the 24th session of its Committee on Sustainable Energy. Member States will gather to review implementation progress of the 2014-2015 programme of work. Topics to be discussed will address a range of issues facing energy, such as: cross-sectoral integration; cost-effective development of integrated electricity systems; smart integration of variable renewable resources into the energy mix; deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS) to mitigate the rise in coal use; guidelines for methane management; and implementation of the Hammamet Declaration. The Consultations' two-day agenda includes progress reports, keynote addresses on innovative thinking in energy and energy policy realities in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, and discussions on, inter alia, a strategic framework, the Paris Climate Change Conference, and a vision for the future and next steps. The Geneva Energy Conversations workshop on 'Scenarios for Sustainable Energy' will be held on 26 May 2015 and will inform the Open-Ended Consultations.

Event: Inaugural Caribbean Region Dialogue with the G20 [viewed]

The Group of 20 (G20) Development Working Group (DWG) will hold, for the first time, a regional dialogue with Caribbean countries on issues of mutual interest, including: G20 priorities and action during Turkey's 2015 Presidency with reflections and suggestions from a Caribbean perspective, especially as relates to development challenges in the Caribbean region; challenges and opportunities in developing the Caribbean Blue Economy; and strengthening resource mobilization for development and domestic mobilization in the Caribbean region in particular. The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago and Turkey, as G20 President and Chair of the DWG, are hosting the Caribbean Region Dialogue.

Event: Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum and Sixth Ministerial Meeting [viewed]

The sixth Ministerial Meeting of the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) will provide policy and technical direction to the organization. The Ministerial is the highest decision-making body of the Forum, which is an international climate change initiative focused on developing cost-effective technologies for the separation and capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) for its transport and long-term safe storage. The initiative focuses on breaking down technical, economic and environmental barriers to improving CO2 capture and sequestration (CCS) technologies. It further promotes awareness and champions legal, regulatory, financial and institutional environments conducive to such technologies.

Event: G20 Development Working Group Meeting [viewed]

The Group of 20 (G20) Development Working Group (DWG) will hold its second meeting of 2015 in support of the Turkish Presidency's priority of "buttressing sustainability". The Turkish Presidency of the G20 is placing development at the center of its 2015 agenda for the G20. The DWG was established in 2010 under the Korean Presidency of the G20 and is responsible for implementing the G20 Development Agenda and reporting progress to the Sherpas. Under its pillar of buttressing sustainability, the Turkish Presidency is also focusing on climate change finance and energy.

Event: International Conference on Climate Action (ICCA): Local Governments Driving Transformation [viewed]

ICCA will highlight the strategic role that municipalities play in combating climate change, recognizing that many have developed successful measures to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The Conference will serve as a platform for exchanging the know-how that subnational governments have acquired through policy creation and implementation. The contributions local action has made to low-carbon, sustainable urban development will be on display through a variety of events, including high-level discussions, open market places, interactive workshops and an award ceremony. Expected participants are municipality representatives, regional and national governments, networks, foundations and researchers. Germany's Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), the National Climate Initiative, the Ministry For Environment, Energy and Climate Protection, and the German Institute of Urban Affairs are sponsoring the Conference.
