Event: Land Day [viewed]

This one-day event is organized by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). It will offer climate change negotiators on opportunity to consider in depth the linkages between climate change and desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD), and will seek to raise awareness about the mutually reinforcing benefits of climate change adaptation, drought mitigation and restoration of degraded lands. Pre-registration at land-day@unccd.int is requested.

UNEP Grants Green Star Awards for Contributing to Stability of Post-Crisis Societies [viewed]

FAO Publishes Guidelines for Emergency Relief for Livestock Keepers Affected by Climate Change [viewed]

WMO Workshop Develops Recommendations on Adaptation in West African Agriculture [viewed]

6 May 2009: The international workshop on Adaptation to Climate Change in West African Agriculture, held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from 27-30 April 2009, was jointly sponsored by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and partner organizations. The event brought together over 70 experts and decision makers to discuss and recommend climate change adaptation options for the agriculture, livestock, forestry and fisheries sectors in West Africa.

COP 15 Chair Briefs the Press on Prospects for Reaching a Global Agreement [viewed]

6 May 2009: In a press conference held at UN Headquarters in New York, US, on prospects for reaching a new global climate change agreement, Connie Hedegaard, Minister for Climate and Energy of Denmark, explained that she aimed to engage in dialogue with Heads of mission at the UN and with the UN Secretary-General on the importance of tackling the “crunch issues” of climate change, namely financing for adaptation and mitigation strategies.
