World Bank Signs Three New ERPAs for Biogas Projects in Mexico
8 November 2011: The World Bank signed three new emission reduction purchase agreements (ERPAs) with Bioenergía de Nuevo León, to buy 1 million carbon credits generated through a biogas plant in Monterrey, Mexico.
Through these projects, 70 percent of public lighting in Monterrey comes from clean biogas produced by the city's waste facility. During the day, electricity from the plant is also used for the city's metro system. The project has also benefitted from GEF funding and the Danish Carbon Fund. [World Bank Press Release (Spanish)]
