World Bank Project Deploys 5.5 Million Energy Efficient Light Bulbs
8 July 2010: The World Bank presented the first results of a project on energy efficiency lighting in Bangladesh, which achieved the record deployment of 5.5 million compact fluorescent lights (CFL) in one day.
The Bangladesh Efficient Lighting (CFL) Program is part of a project to deploy 10.5 million CFL to reduce peak load electricity demand by 300 MW, with the ensuing benefits for the stability of rural electricity supply and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions. Expected GHG reductions are of the order of 350,000 tons of carbon per year. A programmatic Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project is being implemented to market these emission reductions [IISD RS Sources] [Project Website]
