World Bank Managing Director addresses “Globalization and the Challenges of Inclusion and Climate Change”
In an address to the 9th Annual Global Development Network Conference in Brisbane, Australia, the World Bank's Managing Director, Operations, Graeme Wheeler, said “climate change is more than an immense development challenge,” and emphasized that “it is a major threat to all our economic and political systems and requires vision, courage, and leadership to address it.”
Wheeler stressed that climate change is the second major threat to long term prosperity.
The need to moderate and manage climate change is central to every aspect of economic growth, development and poverty reduction, and its policy dimensions embrace issues of equity, ethics, and security. He said addressing the challenges of inclusive and sustainable economic growth and global warming will require an unprecedented degree of international cooperation and goodwill.
