World Bank, GEF Finance Climate Technology Needs Assessment in China
29 May 2012: The World Bank approved a US$5 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to support the Government of China in assessing climate change adaptation technology needs.
The “China Climate Technology Needs Assessment Project” will assist the government of China in its efforts to strengthen capacity to adapt and disseminate climate change technology. The project focuses on developing methodologies to assess technology needs, key climate technology gaps, corresponding global technologies, best practices, and barriers for technology transfer and deployment in selected sectors and provinces; as well as creating technology knowledge centers. The project will also include a pilot programme to support small and medium sized companies in procuring goods and services required to accelerate the process of climate-friendly technology transfer, diffusion and scale-up.
