World Bank Finances Education for Low Carbon Development in Guyana

World Bank23 June 2011: The World Bank approved a US$10 million loan to strengthen Guyana's science and technology tertiary education and advance its Low Carbon Development Strategy, through funding provided by the International Development Association (IDA).

The project, expected to benefit 6,300 students and faculty, will: support applied research in the area of low carbon development, including through rainforest conservation and biodiversity preservation; improve laboratory facilities; and support the University of Guyana in planning for future phases of its strategic plan.
