World Bank’s World Development Report Calls for Financial Assistance for Low Carbon Development
15 September 2009: The World Bank has launched “World Development Report 2010: Development and Climate Change.”
The Report says developing countries can shift to lower-carbon paths while promoting development and reducing poverty, but only if financial and technical assistance from high-income countries is forthcoming.
It also explores how public policy may help cope with new or worsened climate risks, how land and water management must adapt to better protect a threatened natural environment while feeding an expanding and more prosperous population, and how energy systems will need to be transformed.
