WMO International Polar Day Focuses on Polar Oceans

17 March 2009: Polar Days are a part of International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008, a scientific initiative organized through the International Council for Science and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

The eighth quarterly International Polar Day, which is on 18 March, will focus on Polar Oceans. International Polar Days raise awareness and provide information about the Polar Regions. The Polar Days typically include press releases, contacts to experts in several languages, activities for teachers, on-line community participation, web-conferencing events, and links to researchers in the Arctic and Antarctic.
