WHO Director-General Calls for Action on Health and Climate Change


Presenting her Report to the 122nd session of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Executive Board meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr.

Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, made the case for using “every scientifically sound and politically correct mechanism in the book to convince leaders that humanity really is the most important species endangered by climate change.” Director-General Chan said that, while it was traditionally the job of “scientists, and not of public health, to make the case for taking this threat seriously,” it was now time for public health concerns to “move onto the scene in full gear.”
