WCRP Releases Regional Climate Workshop Report

4 October 2010: The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) has released a report on its "Workshop on Regional Climate: Facilitating the Production of Climate Information and its Use in Impact and Adaptation Work," which took place from 14-16 June 2010, in Lille, France.

The workshop focused on research priorities for facilitating the production and use of regional to local climate information in support of impact assessment, adaptation and risk management. The main objectives of the workshop were to: facilitate and promote a unifying vision and approach to regional climate research and the provision of regional climate information to facilitate increased interactions between the Working Groups of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC); find common ground between providers of regional climate information; and provide the opportunity for WCRP to advance the provision of regional climate research on methods and validation. The report summarizes the issues raised on: international coordination for regional climate science; the generation and use of regional to local scale climate information; improving, evaluating and standardizing downscaling techniques; and the representation and communication of uncertainties.

WCRP is a programme under the sponsorship of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the International Council for Science (ICSU). [Workshop Report]
