US and Brazil Conclude MoU for Climate Change Cooperation
3 March 2010: US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation Regarding Climate Change on 3 March 2010.
The MoU launches a new “Climate Change Policy Dialogue” to discuss key issues, including: implementation of the UNFCCC and ways to build on the Copenhagen Accord as quickly as possible; strategies for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; joint efforts on research, development, deployment and dissemination of clean energy technologies; adaptation; cooperation on climate change scientific research; and capacity building in sectors related to climate change.
The MoU will also promote increased cooperation in: reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD), renewable energy, energy efficiency, and carbon capture and storage (CCS). [US State Department Press Release]
