UN/ISDR Resilient Campaign Reaches 100 Cities

2 October 2010: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has announced that the city of Nis, Serbia, is the 100th city to join its "Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready" campaign.

An additional 17 cities have also recently joined the initiative, namely: Aleksandrovac, Arilje, Bojnik, Kanjiza, Kragujevac, Krusevac, Leskovac, Medveda, Novi Pazar, Pirot, Plandiste, Rekovac, Secanj, Senta, Titel, Tutin and Vlasotince.

The aim of the campaign is to enlist over 1,000 local government leaders to further invest in disaster risk reduction (DRR), including by: improving urban planning, infrastructure and building safety; reinforcing drainage systems to reduce flood, storm and health threats; installing early warning systems; conducting public preparedness drills; and taking measures to adapt to the increasing impacts of climate change.
