UNIDO and Statoil to Collaborate on Sustainable Energy Access

11 February 2011:  The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has entered into an agreement with Statoil, an international energy company in oil and gas production, to collaborate in the promotion of access to sustainable energy in developing countries.

Under the agreement, UNIDO and Statoil will work together to examine the feasibility of common projects to promote sustainable energy access and industry, based primarily on local biomass and natural gas resources. At the signing ceremony, Sjur Haugen Statoil Project Manager for Renewable Energy, stated that “Statoil is proud to be part of the UN Secretary-General's Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change (AGECC) and be able to give our inputs on the important agenda of the UN community within the field of energy.” The geographical scope to be covered will include countries of mutual interest in Sub-Saharan Africa, Central America and South America.
