UNFCCC Workshop Discusses Developed Countries’ Emission Reduction Targets

17 May 2012: An in-session workshop on clarification of the developed country Parties' quantified economywide emission reduction targets and related assumptions and conditions took place in Bonn, Germany, during the UN Climate Change Conference.

The objective of the workshop was to continue the process of clarifying the developed country Parties' quantified economy-wide emission reduction targets contained in document FCCC/SB/2011/INF.1/Rev.1, with the objective of understanding assumptions and conditions related to individual targets, in particular in relation to: the base year; global warming potential values; coverage of gases and sectors; expected emission reductions and the role of land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF); and carbon credits from market-based mechanisms; and associated assumptions and conditions related to the ambition of the pledges.

The workshop also provided a platform for developed country Parties to share experiences with the development of low-emission development strategies. [On Demand Webcast of Workshop, with Presentations] [Information Note and Agenda] [IISD RS Coverage of the Bonn Climate Change Conference]
