UNFCCC Secretariat Publishes LDC Expert Group Meeting Report
25 April 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report of the 21st meeting of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Expert Group (LEG), containing, among other things, the LEG's two-year rolling work programme for 2012-2013 and an update on the LEG's efforts to implement its work (FCCC/SBI/2012/7).
During the meeting, held in Thimphu, Bhutan, from 9-13 March 2012, the LEG focused on issues relating to: the implementation of national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs) and the LDC work programme; the strategy for conducting regional training workshops for 2012-2013; the approach for the development of technical guidelines for the national action plan (NAP) process; and outreach activities and various case studies to enrich the LEG's work.
The report: summarizes the status of preparation and implementation of NAPAs; details the discussions with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its agencies on the latest experiences, emerging issues and gaps in developing NAPA projects; and outlines some of the discussions on further specifications for the elements of the LDC work programme other than the NAPA.
