UNFCCC Releases LDCs Views on LULUCF for the Kyoto Protocol’s Second Commitment Period

UNFCCC7 May 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released an advance version of an addendum containing the views from Nepal, for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), on proposals or elements of proposals to address the implications of the implementation of decisions 2/CMP.7 to 4/CMP.7 and 1/CMP.8 on the relevant decisions adopted for the first commitment period and on any supplementary reporting required for the reporting of land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) activities for the second commitment period (FCCC/SBSTA/2013/MISC.1/Add.2).

This document was released in addition to the five submissions contained in document FCCC/SBSTA/2013/MISC.1 and the submission contained in document FCCC/SBSTA/2013/MISC.1/Add.1. The document indicates, inter alia, that the LDC Group: is of the view that both the Kyoto Protocol's Articles 5, 7 and 8 and the Marrakesh Accords, that guide the implementation of these articles, provide the backbone to the Kyoto Protocol's effective monitoring, reporting and verification system; and is particularly concerned with the use of Convention units to meet Kyoto commitments.
