UNFCCC Publishes Report on Potential Host Agreement for the Climate Technology Centre

UNFCCC24 October 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report on the discussions undertaken between the Secretariat and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) regarding key elements of the potential host agreement for the Climate Technology Centre (CTC) (FCCC/SBI/2012/30).

UNEP, leading a consortium of partner institutions, was ranked first by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), at its 36th session, for hosting the CTC. SBI requested the Secretariat to discuss the key elements of the potential host agreement with the top-ranked proponent and to report on the discussions. The key elements of the potential host agreement considered during the discussions are contained in the draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC and UNEP regarding the hosting of the CTC.

This report also presents a list of issues on which the SBI is invited to provide further guidance so that the host agreement can be finalized for approval by the COP. These issues are: the signing of the host agreement on behalf of the COP and UNEP; the reporting by UNEP to the COP on its activities as host of the CTC; and the arrangements for the meetings of the Advisory Board of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN).

The report will be considered by the SBI at its 37th session with a view to recommending the draft host agreement for consideration and approval by the COP at its 18th session. [Report on the Discussions on Key Elements of the Potential Host Agreement for the Climate Technology Centre]
