UNFCCC Publishes REDD Fact Sheet
May 2009: The UNFCCC has published a fact sheet on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD), titled, “Reducing emissions from deforestation in developing countries: approaches to stimulate action.”
The four page fact sheet outlines the relationship between forests and climate change, highlighting the services provided by forests and drivers and impacts of deforestation.
The fact sheet then provides an overview of the UNFCCC's activities on REDD, including developments in the last several Conference of the Parties and intersessional workshops. It concludes with a discussion of capacity building needs and related private and public sector initiatives. This section also discusses the relevance of REDD to non-climate multilateral environmental agreements, including the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF).
