UNFCCC Publishes GEF Report on Technology Transfer
9 May 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a Global Environment Facility (GEF) report on progress made in implementing the Poznan Strategic Programme on Technology Transfer and on consultations with the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) (FCCC/SBI/2014/INF.3), in preparation for the 40th session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 40).
The section of the report on ‘Implementation of the Poznan Strategic and Long-Term Programs on Technology Transfer' describes progress made by the GEF in each of the five elements of the technology transfer programme: support for Climate Technology Centers and a Climate Technology Network, including four regional projects and three national projects (Mexico, India and the Russian Federation); piloting priority technology projects to foster innovation and investments; public-private partnership (PPP) for technology transfer; technology needs assessments (TNAs); and the GEF as a catalytic supporting institution for technology transfer for both adaptation and mitigation.
On GEF consultations with the CTCN, the report elaborates on discussions regarding modalities of: GEF financial support to the CTCN; sharing experiences and lessons learned on climate technology transfer and financing; and participation of financing institutions to the CTCN.
