UNFCCC Announces Proposed COP 17 President-Designate

24 May 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, will be proposed as President-Designate of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) and the seventh session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (COP/MOP 7).

Nkoana-Mashabane was appointed Minister of International Relations and Co-operation of the Republic of South Africa in May 2009. During the 1980s, she was an active member of the African National Congress (ANC) underground structures. After the unbanning of the ANC in 1990, she served the party in various structures. COP17 and COP/MOP 7 will take place from 28 November  - 9 December 2011, in Durban, South Africa. [Maite Nkoana-Mashabane's Profile]
