UNFCCC and Partners Launch UN Alliance on Climate Change Education, Training and Awareness
3 December 2012: The Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) launched the UN Alliance on Climate Change Education, Training and Public Awareness along with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
The Alliance was launched at a side event held on the margins of the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC, which showcased examples of cooperation in the Dominican Republic, the Gambia, Switzerland and the EU, illustrating the importance of education, training and public awareness on climate change-related issues. The side event also presented the Alliance's draft framework for action.
The Alliance is intended to contribute to the implementation of the Doha work programme on Article 6 of the UNFCCC through enhanced interagency collaboration. [UNFCCC Event Announcement]
