UNESCO’s “On the Frontlines of Climate Change” Forum Discusses Local Participation in REDD

27 March 2009: “On the Frontlines of Climate Change,” an internet forum launched by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in partnership with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Secretariat of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, has published an article on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD).

The article, “REDD governance and effective local participation,” shares the view points of individuals from the Democratic Republic of Congo, India and Nepal. The forum poses questions related to: how governments can ensure community input into REDD deliberations; and what communities are doing to participate in the “REDD debate.”
