UNEP Spotlights TUNZA Delegate’s Cooking Oil Project

23 September 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has spotlighted a waste cooking oil recycling project, the Turn Grease into Fuel (TGIF) project, which collects over 36,000 gallons of waste cooking oil annually, and converts the grease into heating fuel and biodiesel. According to UNEP, the project, which was initiated by 13-year-old US student, Cassandra Lin, generates over 120,000 litres of biodiesel each year, offsetting 250 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Lin is attending the TUNZA Children and Youth Conference on Green Jobs for Sustainable Development: Towards Rio+20, which is seeking to shape the position of youth in the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). [UNEP Press Release]
