UNEP Risoe Centre Publishes May Update of ACP-CD4CDM Project

UNEP Risoe25 May 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risoe Centre has published an update of the ACP-CD4CDM Project, highlighting Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) capacity building and implementation activities carried out in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.

The update highlights the purpose of the ACP-CD4CDM Project, which is part of the Capacity Development for CDM (CD4CDM) Project implemented by the UNEP Risoe Centre, as well as part of the European Commission Programme for Capacity Building related to multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) in ACP countries. The objective of the Project is to help participating ACP countries to fully participate in the carbon market. The update reports that 91 Project Idea Notes (PINs), 32 Project Design Documents (PDDs), 14 Programme of Action PINS (POA-PINS) and five POA Design Documents (POA-DDs) have been developed in several sectors in participating countries.

The update also reports on the support being given to participating Pacific countries (Fiji, Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea) to overcome challenges and barriers to fully participate in the international carbon markets, such as the organization of capacity building workshops. It also highlights: the creation of the CDM Technical Office in Cuba; and the winning of the 2011 Best Communicator of the Year Award for the African region by the Designated National Authority (DNA) of Côte d'Ivoire.
