UNEP Risø Describes the Concept of NAMA
June 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risø Centre has launched a publication, titled 'Understanding the Concept of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action,' which seeks to enable national policy makers and other stakeholders, such as the private sector and technical experts, to acquaint themselves with the concept of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA).
The paper provides a comprehensive overview of the NAMA concept and seeks to enhance the understanding of NAMAs by explaining the underlying decisions of the Conference of the Parties (COP).
Authored by Sudhir Sharma and Denis Desgain, URC, the paper opens with a description of the historical evolution of the NAMA concept. It then features chapters on: understanding the concept of NAMA; measurement, reporting and verification (MRV); and international arrangements for supporting NAMAs.
