UNEP Reports on Tree Plantings in Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire
30 November 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Tunza Youth Programme is spearheading a tree planting drive involving hundreds of Kenyan youth. The campaign, launched in partnership with schools and youth and community groups, aims to plant over 85,000 trees during the Kenyan rainy season in Central, Nairobi and Rift-Valley provinces.
In addition, UNEP also reported that UN peacekeepers planted nearly 600 trees in a botanical garden in Côte d'Ivoire. The trees planted on both occasions will be registered under the umbrella of UNEP's Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign.
