UNEP Participates in Seventh World Chambers Congress
13 June 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) participated in the biannual seventh World Chambers Congress, which was organized by the International Chamber of Commerce and the World Chamber Federation and convened in Mexico City, Mexico, from 8-10 June.
The over 1,000 business leaders at the meeting discussed how green economic growth can create employment, open up new business and trade opportunities, and encourage innovation and competitiveness. According to UNEP, delegates agreed that the private sector has a key role to play in building a low-carbon, resource efficient future.
As part of the Congress, a workshop titled "R20 – A Regional Approach to Tackling Climate Change" convened. During this workshop, UNEP emphasized the important role that small and medium enterprises can play as catalysts in a green economy transition in Latin America. [UNEP Press release]
