UNEP Convenes Green Customs Partners Meeting
17 February 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) convened the 7th Green Customs Partners Meeting, from 8-9 February 2011, at INTERPOL headquarters in Lyon, France.
Key outcomes of the meeting included agreement on common activities for the coming year including the production of e-learning modules to reach out to customs and border enforcement officers. Partners also agreed to an ambitious series of integrated customs training workshops for developing countries and production of practical assistance tools.
The Green Customs Initiative (GCI) brings together the enforcement community, international organizations and secretariats of multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) with trade related provisions, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, UNEP and the World Customs Organization, to facilitate their cooperation to prevent illegal trade in environmentally sensitive commodities.
