UNEP Convenes Business Leaders in Debate on Green Economy
14 April 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the French postal service Le Groupe La Poste, convened the 2011 Business and Industry Global Dialogue, from 11-12 April 2011, in Paris, France.
The event was part of UNEP's efforts to strengthen the private sector's role in the transition to a resource-efficient and green economy. The meeting reviewed key findings from UNEP's Green Economy Report, focusing on the implications for business, and considered private sector contributions to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
Participants debated and mapped out contributions of the private sector to Rio+20. They underscored the importance of measuring the environmental and economic effects of "business as usual" practices, and called for encouraging greater investment in sustainable practices. [UNEP Press Release]
