UNEP Co-hosts Nature of Cities Forum in China

29 July 2010: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Chinese Society of Entrepreneurs and Ecology (SEE) co-hosted the Nature of Cities-Low Carbon Transformation and Chinese Enterprises Forum on 29 July 2010, at the Shanghai Expo in China.

The Forum brought together green business leaders, government officials, and specialists on low-carbon transformation, with the aim of encouraging the development of a low-carbon economy driven by Chinese entrepreneurs, and demonstrating the competitiveness of low-carbon enterprises in China.

A central theme of the Forum was the integration of low-carbon technology into Chinese businesses, which, according to UNEP, would boost China's green economy while improving biodiversity in urban environments by reducing carbon emissions. UNEP and SEE also announced the purchase of emission quotas from the China Environment and Energy Network to offset carbon emissions caused by participants' travel to the Forum. [UNEP Press Release]
