UNEP’s Climate Neutral Network Gains 100th Participant

One Year Old and One Hundred Strong - Copenhagen becomes the 100th participant of the UNEP Climate Neutral Network

19 February 2009: The City of Copenhagen, which will host the UN Climate Change Conference later this year, became the 100th participant in the Climate Neutral Network (CN Net). CN Net is an initiative of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) that promotes low-carbon economies and involves cities, companies, non-governmental organizations, countries and UN agencies. Other additions to CN Net include Microsoft, Daejeon, South Korea, the Norwegian County of Aust-Agder, Deutsche Bank and News Limited.

The first 100 participants were honored in Nairobi, Kenya, at the 25th Session of the UNEP Governing Council, which is convening from 16-20 February 2009. Speaking at the event, UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner underlined the relevance of CN Net in the context of the unfolding financial and environmental crises. He added that the initiative showcases “both the promise and viability of the low-carbon development model which goes hand-in-hand with the emerging Green Economy initiatives around the globe.” [UNEP Press Release] [UN Press Release]
