UNCCD CRIC Bureau Sets Dates for CRIC 11, Postpones Submission Deadline of National Reports

18 September 2012: The Bureau of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), at its 17-18 September meeting in Bonn, Germany, set the dates for the eleventh meeting of the CRIC and discussed issues relating to the review of implementation process, among other issues.

CRIC 11 is scheduled to convene from 8-12 April 2013, in Bonn, Germany. Two additional days before the session, namely 5-6 April, will be dedicated to regional meetings preparatory to CRIC 11.

Bureau members were briefed on the ongoing national reporting process and its bottlenecks and Global Environment Facility (GEF) enabling activities that support reporting. The Bureau agreed to postpone the deadline for the submission of national reports by several weeks, and set 15 October 2012 as the new deadline. National reports are being submitted through the PRAIS portal, which allows UNCCD country Parties and other reporting entities, through their authorized reporting officers, to communicate information required for the performance review and assessment of implementation (PRAIS) process.

Additional agenda items for the CRIC Bureau meeting were: how to process information from national reporting on best practices on sustainable land management, on data access policies, as well as how information on Convention implementation could be made available in the public domain; and how the UNCCD's Committee on Science and Technology (CST) input on impact indicators compiled by affected countries could be made available to the CRIC following the CST's review, as part of the agenda at its third special session (CST S-3).
