UNCCD and WMO Discuss Collaboration

31 August 2010: Michel Jarraud, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), recently discussed tightening their institutional collaboration with a view to enhancing responses to the effects of climate change.

At a meeting in Bonn, Germany, on 31 August, they discussed areas of convergence in climate research and collaboration to enhance weather-related preparedness through raising public awareness and supporting efforts by the least developed countries (LDCs) to adapt to climate change. They also discussed the role and significance of promoting effective drought portals. [UNCCD Press Release]
