UN to Support Indonesia’s National REDD+ Programme
23 September 2011: The Government of Indonesia and the UN System signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the framework for cooperation with, and support for, the Indonesian national REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stock) programme.
The signing ceremony of the MOU took place on the sideline of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, US, with Helen Clark, Administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, representing the UN System.
The MOU aims to enhance the level of coordination, efficiency and effectiveness of REDD implementation in Indonesia. Through the UN Office for REDD+ Coordination in Indonesia, the UN System will provide the National REDD+ Task Force with support and relevant technical expertise for implementation of the national REDD programme, including through assistance with the development of policy and strategy.
