UN Secretary-General Stresses Role of Business at China Climate Summit
26 June 2014: The 2014 China Summit on Caring for Climate aimed to serve as a platform for dialogue and action on the role of business in addressing climate change in China. The Summit, organized by the Global Compact Network China, brought together both Chinese and international business leaders to showcase and scale up efforts on climate finance, low-carbon technologies and solutions, and ways in which the private sector can support national climate change policy priorities.
The Summit, which was held in Beijing, China, on 26 June 2014, also addressed the importance of youth engagement and increasing awareness on climate change.
In a video message to the Summit, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stressed the crucial role of business in addressing climate change. He invited participants to the 2014 Climate Summit on 23 September, and to the Caring for Climate Business Forum to be held on the sidelines of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 20), to be held in Lima, Peru, in December 2014. Ban further called on participants to: drive innovation for low-carbon growth; foster collaboration that rewards climate-sensitive performance; and harness the power of business for a sustainable future.
