UN Secretary-General Commends Germany’s Leader for Efforts in Addressing Climate Change and the Food Crisis
2008: During his 15-16 July 2008 visit to Germany, UN Secretary-General Ban
Ki-moon met with Chancellor Angela Merkel, to whom he expressed thanks for her country's
overall cooperation and support to the UN. Ban also expressed his appreciation
to Merkel for her “personal leadership” in “advancing the global agenda,
particularly on climate change and the food crisis and development issues.” [UN press release, 15 July 2008]
