UN-REDD Newsletter Previews Ninth Policy Board Meeting

19 October 2012: The UN Collaborative Programme on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (UN-REDD) has released the October edition of the UN-REDD Newsletter, previewing the ninth Policy Board meeting to be held on 26-27 October 2012, in Brazzaville, the Republic of Congo.

The Newsletter indicates that the Policy Board will be meeting as an expanded board with the newly-elected members from civil society and indigenous peoples. Main items for discussion include: monitoring and reporting for reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries (REDD+); multiple benefits from REDD+; the role of REDD+ in the green economy; and gender mainstreaming within REDD+ investments.

The newsletter reports on national progress in REDD+ in Indonesia, Panama and the Solomon Islands and Tanzania, as well as UN-REDD Programme activities at the 21st session of the Committee on Forestry (COFO) and the third World Forest Week, in Rome, Italy. The newsletter also features articles on: the increased UN-REDD programme investments in targeted activities at the national level; the UN-REDD report on the multiple benefits from REDD+; and the publication of two new Go-REDD+ issues by UN-REDD Asia.
